Critical State of Lake Sevan Discussed at National Assembly


There was a discussion held at the National Assembly on 17 July in regard to the critical state of Lake Sevan organized by “Prosperous Armenia” party. The organizers have particularly outlined that RA Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan and RA Health Minister Arsen Torosyan had been invited to these discussions, nevertheless, they didn’t turn up.

In the course of the discussions, Yuri Javadyan – Chair of Lake Sevan Preservation Expert Committee, had a speech where he outlined the contamination of Lake Sevan with wastewater and the absence or extreme lack of cleaning stations as a main problem.

Among SOS Sevan civic initiative, Chief Researcher at Institute of Hydroecology and Ichthyology of NAS RA Lusine Hambaryan, President of “Association for Sustainable Human Development” Karine Danielyan, Expert in Energy Eduard Arzumanyan and Satik Badeyan from Sevan Town made speeches.

The MPs having attended this meeting, as well as Edgar Pirumyan – Head of Water Resources Management Agency of Ministry of Environment and Nune Bakunts Deputy Director of Disease Control and Prevention of RA Health Ministry made comments.
