On October 4, 2022, RA National Academy of Sciences hosted the presentation of the reprinted "Scientific Basis of Conservation and Restoration of Natural Resources of Lake Sevan" by Raphael Hovhannisyan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Corresponding Member of NAS RA, and "Sevan Island..." by literary critic Avik Isahakyan: The event was dedicated to Rafael Hovhannisyan's 80th birthday.
Concerned about the fate of Lake Sevan, on the initiative of Rafael Hovhannisyan, the employees of Institute of Hydroecology and Ichthyology started drafting RA Law "On Lake Sevan", the key task of which was to ensure the positive water balance of the lake.
With the support of his colleagues from the Russian Federation, Rafael Hovhannisyan justified the need to raise the level of the lake and, in the position of Chair of Sevan Expert Commission of NAS RA, fought for the preservation and efficient use of the water and fish resources of the lake.
Literary critic Avik Isahakyan highly appreciated Rafael Hovhannisyan's scientific activity and contribution to the preservation of Lake Sevan ecosystem. Presenting the book "Sevan Island..." at the memorial wall, he said, "People are gathered here who are lovers of Sevan, either professionally or by vocation. Avetik Isahakyan was a child and a son of Sevan, who did not see Sevan as a natural or geographical phenomenon, but as a living being. And this book has two things to say. The first thing to say is that I grew up from the age of three on an island on the shores of Sevan, where the Writers' Union had a holiday home, next to the Master.
I have seen and felt everything, be it the coldness of the water or the sweet taste of the water or that beauty. And the second thing to say is how the Master, first alone, and then gradually his army increased, fought against the criminal plan to dry up Sevan," Avik Isahakyan said.
