The whitefish reserves in Lake Sevan have been replenished, as Evelina Ghukasyan, Director of Hydroecology and Ichthyology of the Scientific Center for Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA, said in her interview with EcoLur.

“Our studies have shown that the whitefish reserves in Lake Sevan have been replenished: in recent years we had prolific generation, which already replenish the decreased reserves, nevertheless, without final assessment we can’t tell the extent of the industrial reserve and whether hunting will be allowed, factually, the whitefish reserves have definitely increased,” Evelina Ghukasyan said. In reply to EcoLur’s question what promoted increase in the whitefish number Evelina Ghukasyan said, “There is prolific generation notion. 2-3 years ago Lake Sevan was replenished with this prolific generation, i.e. the whitefish spawned much, which coincided with the decrease in fish poaching in the lake. Nevertheless, only end-of-year studies will show whether these reserves are industrial or not.”
