On 12 May, at 12:00, the public hearings on the EIA of “Cage Net Model for Lake Sevan Trout Breeding” will be held at Kartchaghbyur Rural Municipality.

It’s planned to locate 12 cage nets in the neighborhood of Karchaghbyur community in 2015-2016, where fish productivity in each cage net will account for around 685 tons.

Establishing cage net model for breeding Lake Sevan trout will be implemented in the frames of “Complex Program for Recovery of Trout Reserves and Fish Breeding in Lake Sevan”.

If “Complex Program for Recovery of Trout Reserves and Fish Breeding in Lake Sevan”’ says that the forage will contain phosphorus and nitrogen (substances promoting lake waterlogging), “Cage Net Model for Lake Sevan Trout Breeding” project doesn’t mention anything about the phosphorus and nitrogen.

Given the recovery of the trout reserves in Lake Sevan, the project says that they plan to let out minimum 25% of the young fish into the lake.

In their turn, private cage net business entities will by around 2000,000 young fish in the amount of 1.5% of their annual revenue and let them out into Lake Sevan.  Around 133 million AMD will be directed to solve the problems of Lake Sevan basin.

Only the solution of these problems can result in the probable recovery of Lake Sevan fish reserves, nevertheless, “Cage Net Model for Lake Sevan Trout Breeding” project doesn’t have any certain proposals.

To Remind: on 16 April 2015 the Armenian Government granted privileges to “Sevan Trout” CJSC postponing the payment of VAT for imported good for three years.

“Sevan Trout” CJSC was founded in 2014 in the frames of “Complex Program on Recovery and Fish Development of Trout Reserves in Lake Sevan”. The company shall ensure the production of trout fish, processing and realization of product fish. For this purpose young fish plant has been constructed in the territory of Karchaghbyur community, Gegharkounik Region. In upcoming three years the company intends to construct Sevan trout processing plant and 118 items of good costing 2,667,790,000 AMD will be imported from Denmark, Germany, Norway, Italy, Russian Federation, Chili, Sweden, Spain and Finland. It’s noteworthy that the country of import of fish forage top in the list is not mentioned. It only says that 160,000 kg of fish forage costing 180,000,000 AMD will be imported.

In 2014 the quality of Lake Sevan water was not favourable for the fish. Uner the annual certificate of “Environmental Impact Monitoring Center” of Nature Protection Ministry for 2014, the concentrations of ammonium ion, nitrite ion, vanadum, chromium and selenium exceeded the maximum permissible concentrations.
