The residents of Aghavnadzor, Meghradzor, Marmarik, Artavazd and Hanqavan Villages, Kotayq Region, have today blocked Hrazdan-Hanqavan highway demanding to have a meeting with Kotayq Regional Head Romanos Petrosyan. The problem is that each year the villagers have been allowed by law to enter the forest and to collect dry wood, nevertheless, they haven’t been allowed to do the same today. “People were not allowed to enter the forest,” Aghavnadzor Community Head Mekhak Danielyan told in his interview with us. “They were explaining it with the absence of the governmental resolution and the absence of the consent of RA Nature Protection Ministry,” Danielyan noted.
According to Danielyan, Kotayq Regional Head Romanos Petrosyan went and gave a solution to this problem.
“Today the Municipality headed by Regional Head made a claim to RA Nature Protection Ministry noting that the people need this amount of dry wood and this claim was met. The forestry enterprise was assigned to allow the people to collect dry wood.” Danielyan said.
Under Danielyan, so far the villagers have been allowed by law to enter the village and to collect dry wood. “The nature doesn’t need this wood and no damage is caused to nature. Legal documentation is already formulated, people can go and collect dry wood starting from the day after tomorrow. This issue has been solved,” Danielyan mentioned.
It should be mentioned that under the governmental resolution, people residing in near-forest communities are allowed to collect 8 cum of fallen deadwood.
