Lake Sevan Started Blooming: Level Decreasing

Lake Sevan has begun blooming, as "Armenian State Hydrometeorological And Monitoring Service" SNCO of RA Environment Ministry informs. "The process of the lake blooming has started, as a result of which the value of transparency was observed in the very low range of 2-2.7 m. There is a darker color in the Great Sevan, even in the coastal layers the green color is expressed in the form of the foam. The dissolved oxygen concentration was observed in the range of 4.8-9.6 mg/l (the minimum value was observed in the 30 m depth layer of Small Sevan).

"The water temperature is 3.8 degrees Celsius in the 60-meter-deep layer of the Small Sevan, and 5.5 degrees Celsius in the 30-meter-deep layer of the Great Sevan," "Armenian State Hydrometeorological And Monitoring Service" SNCO says in its press release. This year, the level of Lake Sevan rose to 1900.91 m as of June 8. Then it started to come down from the lake as a result of water intake and evaporation for the irrigation of the Ararat valley. As of June 14, the level of the lake is 1900.87 meters. The level of the lake is 5 cm higher than the index of the same day last year. From May 25 to June 13, 37.840 million cubic meters of water was released from the lake, and since the beginning of the year, 118.400 million cubic meters of water has flowed into the lake through the Arpa-Sevan tunnel.
