Civil Society Calling on to Join Campaign Launched against Controversial Mining Code

Civil society has started a campaign calling on people to take to various platforms to oppose the controversial draft law "On Making Amendments to Mining Code of the Republic of Armenia".

The campaign was launched by Oleg Dulgaryan, President of Center for Community Consolidation and Support NGO and Inga Zarafyan – President of EcoLur Informational NGO by posting their photos on Facebook with a sign in their hands saying “Join, say NO to Anti-constitutional Draft Law on Mining Code”. Environmentalists, human rights activists and NGO representatives started posting photos with the same post.

Reminder: just two days ago, ignoring the call of non-governmental organizations, 68 MPs of the National Assembly voted for this draft law.

Before that, NGOs had written letters to RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, and Vahe Ghalumyan, Chairman of NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Protection, demanding to obstruct the adoption of draft law "On Making Amendments and Addenda to RA Mining Code" at the meeting of the RA National Assembly to be held on 12 April, 2022. Attached to the letter was the second statement of 41 non-governmental organizations on revoking the draft law from the National Assembly and amending it.
