EcoLur, We Won’t Keep Silence
“EcoLur” NGO and “We Won’t Keep Silence” Youth Initiative are launching a series of joint signal alarms entitled “Nature or Money?”.
The first alarm signal refers to the fate of Trchkan waterfall in Lori Region. Nature Protection Ministry bears responsibility for this magnificent monument of nature. Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan has proposed the developer of “Trchkan” SHPP to suspend all types of works and to table proposals within 10 days that will ensure the preservation of Trchkan waterfall.
“EcoLur” NGO and “We Won’t Keep Silence” Youth Initiative express their concern what kind of proposals there should be, if both the water use permit and positive conclusion of the environmental expert assessment are illegal. According to the Armenian Government decision N 967 dated on 14 August 2008, Trchkan waterfall is included in the list of water monuments. According to 19 (1) Article of RA Law “On Especially Preserved Territories of Nature”, any activities in the territory of natural monument which threatens to tis preservation is banned by law.
“EcoLur” NGO and “We Won’t Keep Silence” Youth Initiative demand from Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan to annul water use permit issued to “Trchkan” SHPP and the positive conclusion of the environmental expert assessment.
