Public is protecting the specially protected territory, Trchkan Waterfall, from illegal construction of a small hydropower plant, which is carried out by “Robshin” LLC with illegal documents issued by Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia.
This construction is violating the provisions of the following international conventions signed and ratified by Armenia: UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision Making and Access to Justice in Environmental Maters, UN Convention on Biological Diversity, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, UN Convention to Combat Desertification, European Landscape Convention, European Convention on Protection of Wild Nature and Habitat, Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
It also violates the national environmental legislation: RA “Land Code,” RA “Water Code.” RA Law On Flora, RA Law on Specially Protected Natural Areas, RA Law on Environmental Impact Assessment.
At present public lawyers are drawing up legal grounds for stating illegal actions of competent officials of Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia about committing a crime against specially protected territory, Trchkan Waterfall. Trchkan Support Group considers all the actions aimed to continue the construction of a small hydropower plant on Trchkan waterfall as assistance to this crime.
