Vanadzor-Alaverdi interstate highway, bordering with Georgia, is in disastrous state. According to Transportation and Communication Ministry, the improvement and service works were not carried out in 2016, as it will undergo capital rehabilitation. The project plans to reconstruct and to rehabilitate three tunnels located on Vanadzor-Alaverdi-Georgia interstate highway. The project will be funded by the European Investment Bank and the Asian Development Bank. The cost of the project is 101 million Euros. The road will be blocked during construction works and they are planned to be accomplished in 32 months. This highway serves dozens of trucks crossing Armenia-Georgia border per day.
