Despite the environmentalists' protests, the birds registered in the Red Book are on sale in the Yerevan pet market.
Head of the Center for Bird Lovers NGO Silva Adamyan told ArmInfo that there is no control over the sale. Notwithstanding the application to the Armenian Ministry of Nature Protection, the efforts of the environmentalists to resolve this problem have given no results.
She added that the rare species are also illegally taken abroad to be sold, as these birds cost much there. Such information is often received from the citizens of foreign states, Adamyan said. She pointed out that a peregrine costs 50 thsd EUR abroad.
