MINISTER STOPPED CAPITAL CONSTRUCTION IN GILAN WILDLIFE PRESERVE TILL DOCUMENTATION EXAMINATION

The Minister of Nature Protection of RA Aram Harutyunyan ordered the Director of “Khosrov Forest” Reserve Vorontsov Barseghyan to ban the further capital construction in Gilan Wildlife Preserve. “Unless we understand how to go by, I flatly ban anybody, even if they have any approved projects at their hands and act in the frames of their permits, to construct anything from stone and concrete, Mister Director, you are to assume this responsibility. You must give raise an alarm and inform about any case. If needed, I will come myself and stop any construction,” said the Nature Protection Minister on 22 June during his visit to “Khosrov Forest” State Reserve paid with environmental NGOs. During his meeting NGO representatives he said that Ministry will act only after examination of all documents.

Reminder: the other say youth green movement activist Mariam Sukhudyan raised an alarm about the construction renewed in Gilan. The Head of Specially Protected Territories Department of Agency for Natural Resources Management Aram Aghasyan presented this fact to journalists as a recreation place for ecotourism. On 18 June the Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan promised to discuss the problem of Gilan together with environmental NGOs directly in “Khosrov Forest”. He gave this promise in the UN Armenian Office during the event dedicated to the World Day to Combat Desertification. On 19 June the working meeting of the union for Environmental NCOs and WWF Armenia took place at the Aarhus Center in Yerevan.

During his meeting with NGOs the minister also touched upon the problem of people inhabiting in Gilanlar Village included in the territory of “Khosrov Forest” State Reserve. “What about the village, this problem will actually be raised. We will also try to find alternative solutions to compensation and other. People who will receive compensations their land areas will be leveled to the ground. Otherwise, other people will come and occupy their land areas, and again we will have the same problems,” the Minister said.
