The governmental officials had rather amazing reaction to the concern expressed by public and opposition public parties in regard with Lake Sevan preservation.

A new public campaign S.O.S. Sevan has been launched. The results of the public monitoring has been presented as a substantiation – the pollution of Sevan with sewage water and heavy metals, lake waterlogging, extinction of fish reserves, changes in biodiversity and fish modification, illegal operation of mining companies etc. Heritage Party MP Larisa Alaverdyan expressed her concern with these problems in the course of parliamentary debates with the government.

PM Tigran Sargsyan readdressed this question to Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan, nevertheless, the letter denied these allegations.

Meanwhile the Minster’s solemn statement in 2009 was left behind the cadre that the construction of gold recovery plant in Sotq threatening to Lake Sevan was stopped with the efforts of Nature Protection Ministry where the crushing and sorting complex is located now, i. e. the first part of the production.
