“Teghout Support” Civic Initiative circulated an alarm signal on social networks about the pollution of Shnogh River with industrial wastes. “Teghout” CJSC (a part of “Vallex” Company)” and Manes Foundation owned by the same company regularly circulate announcements about the works on the cleaning of Shnogh River. But the photos show that the catastrophic situation of the Shnogh River is conditioned by the operations of this mining company. The sewage of “Teghout” CJSC is guttered into the Shnogh River, which is the only source of irrigation for Shnogh and Teghout communities with a population of 3908 people. “Teghout” CJSC develops Teghout copper and molybdenum mine in an opencast manner and for this very purpose it cuts down Teghout forest, destroys biodiversity and makes water resources unfit for usage.”
“Vallex” Group Company, in its turn, has circulated an answer, which particularly says, “In the process of ore washing, water is mixed with ground and sand, and both toxic and chemical substances posing any risk to environment are not used. Then the process of mechanical cleaning takes place, and the mixture remained is transferred to the dumps.”
Then the company statements say that the Teghout supporters made photos at the moment when cleaning process didn’t function due to some technical reasons and everything was dumped into the Shnogh River, but as the reply says operative measures were taken and the situation is under the control.”
