British Ambassador John Gallagher said during his opening remarks:
“I’m delighted to be here today at the launch of this project to support the Armenian Parliament to engage more effectively in the development of green energy policy. This project is a positive step towards ensuring energy security in Armenia, in line with the country’s international commitments and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
“The UK government is committed to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Our ambitious Net Zero Strategy sets out policies for decarbonising all sectors of the UK economy and transitioning to a green and sustainable future, helping businesses and consumers to move to clean power".
Hasmik Arakelyan, Research Director of "Brevis" research and marketing company, presented the results of the public opinion survey on climate change and renewable energy in Armenia. Gabriel Balayan, Director of "Mentis Legal" Company, presented the results of the analysis of legislative gaps in the field of renewable energy.
Addressing the speaker, Kristina Ter-Matevosyan, journalist of "EcoLur" Informational NGO, noted, “"EcoLur" Informational NGO carries out monitoring in the field of solar energy. In particular, during the monitoring of the construction project of "Masrik-1" solar photovoltaic plant, risks related to the construction of the plant on agricultural land and the lack of regulations regarding the use or recycling of electronic waste were raised. Can solutions be provided within the framework of this program that will contribute to the adoption of such norms, or exclude the recurrence of such risks in the future?" Gabriel Balayan responded that their goal was less than the issues raised.
