EcoLur’s new video explores the key challenges facing Armenia’s waste management sector and the changes expected with the introduction of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system.
In the video, Vahan Gharibyan, President of the Union of Recyclers of Armenia, discusses the main obstacles hindering waste recycling in the country. According to him, the sector currently lacks effective incentive mechanisms, but the introduction of the EPR system could stimulate competition and accelerate the development of the recycling industry.
Lusine Avetisyan, Head of Strategic Policy Department at Armenia’s Ministry of Environment, explains the core principles of the Extended Producer Responsibility system and how it is expected to function in Armenia.
The video also addresses the potential economic impacts of the reform, particularly possible changes in product prices, while highlighting the important role communities and citizens will play in waste sorting and separate collection.
