Armenian Businesses Prepare for the Green Transition: EcoLur’s New Video
A number of businesses in Armenia are already preparing for the “green transition” by reviewing their operations from the perspective of waste management and more efficient use of resources. Some companies have already begun taking practical steps in this direction.

One of the key drivers of this process is the planned introduction of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system. Under this system, producers and importers of certain products will be responsible for the collection, sorting, recycling, and safe disposal of waste generated after those products are used.

The EPR system has been operating in European countries for many years, and Armenia is also taking steps toward its introduction. Advisory support to the business sector in this process is being provided within the framework of “Waste Policy Armenia” (WPA) program, implemented by the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment.

In the video, Silva Mesropyan, private sector engagement business consultant for “Waste Policy Armenia” program, discusses the introduction of the EPR system in Armenia, the response of businesses, and the opportunities for developing a circular economy.

Mesropyan notes in the video that the EPR system can influence the entire production chain, starting from product design and packaging. According to her, once a company understands that it will have to pay in the future for the waste generated by its products, it begins to reconsider the materials it uses, as well as its design and packaging approaches.

The expert also notes that some Armenian businesses are already applying circular economy principles, often without even realizing it.
