'Dundee Precious Metals Kapan' CJSC intends to reinforce the northern dam of Geghanush tailing dump and to construct a drainage system to reduce accident risks and to overcome large seismic phenomena.

The public hearings on the increase in general static resistance of the northern dam of Geghanush tailing dump will be held at 15:00 on 10 September in DPMK Info House.

This tailing dump collects the tails of the Kapan Ore Dressing Plant operated by the DPMK. The Geghanush tailing dump has been operated since 1962 with intervals.

According to the project, the works consist of two stages:

1) construction of drainage system

2) reinforcement of northern dam

The drainage system will coordinate the management of leaks, where also a surface water collection system will be constructed.

A dam of 380,000 m3 capacity will be constructed to avoid possible deformations due to seismic phenomena. The land area needed for the construction makes up 3.74122 ha. From 2007 to 2012 tails of 2.1 million m3 will be transferred to the Geghanush tailing dump.
