In his interview with Sputnik Armenia, Water Committee Chair Vahagn Gevorgyan presented the current state of RA water resources and future plans. He also spoke about the "water" problems with the neighbors, the need to use their own water resources effectively.
On this side of the border, an unprecedented amount of reservoir construction works are being carried out. Water Committee Chair Vahagn Gevorgyan said that the construction of Vedi reservoir, which has been going on for many years, will be completed this year. Whereas on May 17, the start of construction of Kapsi Reservoir will be officially announced with the funds of KfW and the state budget.
"Besides these reservoirs, we have also planned the construction of 15 other reservoirs, out of which the design and estimate works of the six ones are already in progress. Regarding 4 reservoirs (Astghadzor, Argitchi, Yelpin, Qasakh) the work on the development of design estimate documents has already started, a double tender for the acquisition of design estimate documents has been announced for 2 reservoirs (Litchq, Artik), and I consider it possible that we will also have the tenders for the construction works of 2 reservoirs by the end of the year", Vahagn Gevorgyan said.
In addition, the government is discussing the possibility of building Yeghvard reservoir based on the results of studies conducted by Japanese "Jaika" Company. The government is also negotiating with EUDB on the possible construction of "Selav-Mastara" reservoir in Aragatsotn Region.
In addition to the above-mentioned reservoirs, the government is also planning the construction of 31 day-regulating reservoirs, the tenders for the design and estimate works have been accomplished. The committee hopes to start the construction works of these reservoirs by the end of the year.
