For already several days drinking water in Kapan has grown turbid because of soil dirt. This is a usual picture for Kapan in spring after downpours.

“I have never seen such a thing in my life: all the living has died,” said an Arzni villager in the interview with EcoLur who eye witnessed the mass elimination of the fish in the Hrazdan River. EcoLur received an s.o.s. signal on 23 January. When we reached the scene, Arzni Gorge, we saw the river bottom full of dead fish, crabs and frogs. It was already the third day the Sevan gulls have been feeding with the fish having risen to the surface.

State and business are not concerned with the absence of cleansing structures and waste water discharge system in Kapan.

A truck fell into the river Debed near the village of Akhtala at 1.05 p.m. December 24.

IFC and Ameriabank have signed an agreement on providing Armenia with a $ 15 million loan for renewable energy programs. The both rivers flowing in Kapan have already transformed into waste water, as this year waste water is also thrown into the Voghji River besides household and construction wastes. The sewerage system of the town is in wrecked condition for more 20 years, while the sewage disposal plant is situated 5 km away from the town.
