People in Jermuk are concerned with the intensive construction of “Jermuk-1” SHP on the Arpa River. Still two months ago people put forward their demands for law compliance in the course of public hearings held by “Jermukturboshin” company. Jermuk residents assert that the permit for construction has its validity expired and that two-kilometer-long pipeline runs through specially protected territory, which is not reflected in the project, that about 500 trees will be cut down. Nature Protection Ministry didn’t react to these observations. “Jermukturboshin” company has been continuing the construction launched before issuing environmental impact expert assessment.

“…The construction means that this wonderful piece of nature in Jermuk will be destroyed. The landscape has already been destructed.  The riverbed has been changed, trees have been cut down, stone slabs have been destroyed…Is it possible not to love your country and your nature so much?…”, asks Jermuk resident Makedon Aleksanyan in his letter addressed to Nature Protection Ministry. He enlists the violations of national legislation and demands to stop “illegal construction” in an urgent manner. Aleksanyan also demands to submit proofs that the construction is carried out beyond the specially protected area.
