On 5 May Martz villagers, about 50 people, threw three pipes designed for the construction of Martziget-1 SHHP into the gorge. The SHHP should be constructed by “Martzenergy” LLC. As the locals told “EcoLur”, they told the engineer having brought the pipes they wouldn’t allow the SHHP to be constructed. The engineer stated he was a subordinate person and promised not to lay any pipes unless an agreement is reached between the company administration and villagers.

The people complain that 30 ha of pastures will dry due to this SHHP and the cattle will starve. They have orchards near the pastures, but now no one will plant new orchards, as they won’t be able to water them because of the little amount of water in the Martz River. The villagers are already concerned with the noise produced by the SHHP. “The SHHP building should be constructed downwards below the village. It will strongly impact our health. We have the SHHP owned by Loqyan operating in the 4th km (Ex Agriculture Minister David Loqyan) and Martziget – 2 SHHP. At night when the whole village gets quiet, these SHPPs keep on operating and we have to sleep under this noise,” the villagers say.
Reminder: on 12 March the public hearings on Martziget – 1 SHHP were held in Martz Village. The opinion of the environmental expertise is still not available and unless the company gets the positive opinion, they are not entitled to conduct any construction works under this project.
