Extremely Low Temperature Background, Exceptionally Heavy Snowfall: Spring with Breath of Winter

March 2022 was marked by extremely low temperatures and exceptionally heavy snowfall. Especially over the past 8 days, the average air temperature throughout the Republic is 6-8 degrees below normal, as “HYDROMETEOROLOGY   AND   MONITORING   CENTER” SNCO of RA Environment Ministry informs.

The amount of precipitation today, with the exception of the Ararat Valley, in most parts in the republic is 150-200% of the norm, in some areas-210-230%. Due to the penetration of a powerful cyclone, a record amount of snow has been observed in some areas of the republic in the last three days. In particular, in some areas of Tavush, Lori and Syunik, the snow cover increased by 60-70cm in 3 days, and in some localities -by 100cm or more.
On March 20, due to a severe snowstorm in most of the Republic, a number of roads were impassable.

Over the past 40 years, there has not been such an intense and prolonged snowfall in our country in March.

On March 21-25, the impact of the cyclone on the territory in the republic will remain, but compared to March 20, it will significantly lose its strength.

In the next 5 days, precipitation in the form of snow will continue in some areas in the republic, a blizzard is expected in mountainous areas, low horizontal visibility.

The air temperature will not rise much in the next 5 days, it will remain below the climatic norm by 5-8 degrees.
