The readers of the Syunants Yerkir newspaper named the data published in the issue 16 dated on 10 June 2009 sensational. According to the data published, 59 organizations in Syunik Marz deal with geological investigations.
Most readers showed their concern over the ecological situation in the region, which already becomes catastrophic.
According to the information we have, residents of Lernadzor Village are anxious about the uranium investigations taking into consideration the circumstance that a significant part of the uranium reserves are situated in the surroundings of their community.
They remember the geological activities carried out in this territory during the Soviet period and discuss the circumstance that caused one of their villager’s death at that time. No coincidence that any investigations next to the community awake fear.
Our editorial office received a signal that uranium mining process began on the peak of Aghbis near Katnarat and Pghrout Communities. As we managed to find out the geological exploration was carried out by “Liluar” LLC.
The organization rented a land area of 400 ha near Lernadzor Community for these activities. Geologist Arman Azizbekyan advised that they don’t deal with the uranium investigations, but they sexplore for multimetallic deposits. The organization possessed the map observed still in the Soviet period and now they are checking the results.
