States should not use COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to weaken environmental protection measures: this was announced by an independent UN expert on human rights after several states announced plans to abandon some environmental standards or suspend environmental projects, the UN website informs. “In the light of the global environmental crisis that preceded COVID-19, these actions are irrational, irresponsible and fraught with serious consequences for vulnerable populations,” David Boyd emphasized  - the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment.

Scientists have come to the very definite conclusion that "people living in areas with higher levels of air pollution are at a greater risk of dying prematurely from COVID-19." In addition, access to clean water is very important to prevent people from becoming infected and spreading the virus.
