Yerevan Thermal Power Plant Didn’t Submit Documents to Environmental Expertise in Regards with Using Charcoal

EcoLur

Nature Protection Ministry reply letter to EcoLur says that Yerevan thermal power plant hasn’t so far provided documents to environmental expertise in regard with using a new fuel – charcoal. Reminder: EcoLur has demanded from the Ministry to hold environmental expertise and public hearings in regard with the environmental impact assessment of emissions generated from burning charcoal at Yerevan thermal power plant.

The substantiation of this demand is the technical regulations “Requirements to Safety of Coal Mining, Processing, Storage and Transportation and its Derivative Processes” enforced in the countries using charcoal. The main risks mentioned in the technical regulation is the presence of radiation sources in charcoal, pollution of air basin with emissions, presence of accompanying arsenic.
