Lydian Armenia Wants To Get Water Intake Permit from Arpa River for 41.3 l/s for Amulsar Mining

A draft permit for a new industrial water intake from the Arpa River for 41.3 l/s water is being developed by Lydian Armenia CJSC for Amulsar gold-bearing quartzite mining in the administrative area in Jermuk Community, Vayots Dzor Region, as we learn from the official website of the Environment Ministry.

In case of comments or suggestions on the preliminary version of the draft document, the discussion of the document will take place on January 11, 2022 at 16:00 at the Government House 3rd, 5th floor, room 541.

One may get acquainted with the preliminary version of the draft document and it drafting process on weekdays from 5 pm to 6 pm by contacting Water Resources Management and Protection Body.

Reminder: in 2021 the company again applied to Environment Ministry with the expectation of receiving the same volume of water use permit, but that application was rejected.

It should be noted that in 2020 "Lydian Armenia" company received a permit for water use from the Arpa River in the volume of 11 l/s. The company had twice before applied for a larger volume (more than 40 l/s) of water needed for long-term operation from the Arpa River, and in both cases received a rejection from the ministry. In October 2019, the company was rejected for long-term operation to receive the necessary amount of water from the Darb River.

Reminder: the criminal case related to Amulsar gold-bearing quartzite mining under investigation by RA Investigation Committee's Investigation Department of Highly Important Cases has been terminated.

According to Investigative Committee, all possible investigative and judicial actions were taken during the preliminary investigation, but no factual information was obtained that criminal acts were committed while drafting the EIA of Amulsar Gold Quartzite Mining Complex and issuing the development permit.
