Pan-Armenian Environmental Front
The interest of the foreign companies towards the soil reserves in Armenia doesn’t stop. Now Lydian International Company registered in one of the British offshores, is trying to develop Amulsar gold mine in any way, so it organized discussions and conferences in different formats in the frames of its PR campaigns.
This time, on 30 October, from 14:00 to 18:00, the discussion of the initial “Environmental and Social Impact Assessment” report developed by Lydian International and Geoteam CJSC will be held at Hayat Place Hotel will be organized by the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center with the financial support of the US Embassy in Armenia, drawn up in line with the requirements of the current funding organizations, IFC and EBRD, and future funding organizations - Equator Principle Financial Institution.
We are calling all our partners, who are invited to this discussion, not to take part in them and remind once again that Armenia has a territory of only 39,700 km2, while already 460 mines have been issued permits for development, out of which 26 are metallic ones, and another 71 metallic mines are in exploration stage. As a result, we already have 25 operating and conserved tailing dumps full of dozen hundred million tons of tails, which contain heavy metals and other toxic substances. At such rates, after a couple of decades Armenia will have hundreds of extremely hazardous tailing dumps, which can be disastrous for Armenia and Armenian nation.
As Armenians and citizens of Armenia, we announce we will take any measures to stop this disastrous process and severely condemn such discussions and forums organized by different organizations and mining companies, which only promote faster development of Armenian soil.
