Press Conference: Why Scandal Occurred at Amulsar Mine Public Hearings

The public hearings on Amulsar open pit mining and heap leach plant construction were held in Gndevaz Village, Vayots Dzor Region on 25 August. During the hearings the opinions of the participants supporting and opposing to the project clashed. 210 Gndevaz villagers were opposing to the project, who had signed a complaint addressed to International Finance Corporation (IFC), a part of World Bank, NGOs, green civic initiatives, who had lodged a complaint to IFC and EBRD. Both financial institutions are shareholders of Lydian International company, the developer of Amulsar gold mine.

On 26 August, at 12:00, EcoLur Press Club will host Gndevaz villager, journalist Tehmine Ynoqyan, Pan-Armenian Environmental Front member Levon Galstyan and “EcoLur” Informational NGO President Inga Zarafyan, who will speak about the outcomes of the public hearings and lodged complaints (49 Hanrapetutyan st.).
