At the public hearings on Amulsar project held in Gndevaz community, Vayots Dzor Region, on 25 August the representative of German KfW Bank in Armenia Zara Chatinyan asked what kind of impact the mining may have on the quality of the local drinking water.

“Next year we are launching a large investment project on the improvement of water supply in the region. Are you sure that Amulsar project won’t have any impact on the quality of the drinking water, as under our loaning agreement, the Republic of Armenia bears the whole responsibility, if the quality of the drinking water changes?” Zara Chatinyan asked.

In reply, the representative of Lydian International Company, mine developer, said, “The operating water has double and even tripe shells, i.e. the water flows in closed cycle in pipes and no leak must occur. If a leak occurs, the second shell will protect it, and in some serious places this shell is even triple. What about the quality of the drinking water, we won’t have any effect on it any way. Jermuk pipeline and Amulsar are separated from each other and we can’t affect on the drinking water in Jermuk in any way.”
