Administrative proceedings have been initiated in Environmental and Mining Inspection Body on the pollution of storks in Hovtashen: the reason for bird pollution is the presence of the fat layer in the water areas in Hovtashen community.

“Lab samples were taken from the area water bodies, including from the different sections of the Hrazdan River and the adjacent canals. The employees of Inspection body transferred one stork with oily feathers from Hovtashen community to Scientific Center for Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA. Examinations are carried out with those business entities, from where the leak of the aforementioned substances may be possible.  The works aiming at the detection of the main source of pollution are still in progress. After the comparison and summary of the lab analyses, the prepared materials will be handed to law enforcement bodies,” the press release disseminated by the Inspection body says.

It should be mentioned that ““Armash” Rural Community Support and Development Center” NGO Chair Tigran Matevosyan posted a video on his Facebook page taken near the aqueduct located between Masis and Noramarg villages. The video shows that the water in the aqueduct is polluted with the fat layer, there are also dead fish in the area. Tigran Matevosyan also commented that this area smells in the same way as the storks do. “My demand to the law enforcement bodies is to take strong measures and to punish those who are guilty: this is public property,” he outlined.
