On April 22, the world is celebrating the Earth Day for the 51st time, a holiday that marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement. It aims to draw attention to environmental issues, which are increasing day by day. The theme of Earth Day 2021 is "Restore our Earth".
The main themes of Earth Day this year are biodiversity restoration, climate change and the fight against coronavirus. Within the framework of the day, from April 20, various summits and educational events started. On April 22, a virtual climate summit initiated by US President Joe Biden will be attended by 40 world leaders. Reconstruction of the Earth after the COVID-19 epidemic will lead the world to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable path, said UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
According to the UN official website, the world has been fighting the COVID-19 virus for a long time. Climate change, anthropogenic changes in nature, biodiversity-related activities such as deforestation, land use change, poaching can increase the risk of transmitting infectious diseases from animals to humans, such as COVID-19. According to the UN, every four months, 75% of new infectious diseases among humans are of animal origin. This speaks to the close connection between human health, animals and the environment.
Ecosystems provide life on Earth. The healthier the ecosystems, the healthier the planet and man. Restoring damaged ecosystems will help end poverty, fight climate change, and prevent mass deaths.
In this regard, Earth Day aims to remind us that each of us owes our existence to the planet Earth and ecosystems.
