WWF Armenia (World Wide Fund for Nature) has visited some schools in the Lori, Syunik, Tavush, and Vayots Dzor regions of Armenia as part of the "Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia" project.
Earlier, on April 4, 2022, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) approved an amount of CHF 4'500'000 for the project, which will assist Armenia in combining in an innovative manner nature conservation and economic growth to the benefit of those most in need.
From February to May, WWF Armenia paid two visits to 18 schools in the regions mentioned above. The first-phased visits aimed to raise awareness of schoolchildren living in borderline communities about nature conservation in their native area. “As future decision-makers, children learned about the protected areas adjoining their community lands, threatened animals inhabiting their local surroundings, significant threats to these animals and their habitats, conservation works undertaken by WWF Armenia, state environmental bodies, and relevant environmental issues.” stated Zhak Niazyan, Communications and Partnerships Head of WWF Armenia.
In the second phase, WWF Armenia organized a film screening and discussion on the conservation of nature in the schools. Following that, more than 2700 students received individual gifts from WWF Armenia, as well as all 18 schools were provided with technical and educational equipment. A small painting competition was also organized, as a result of which, 36 children were granted special gifts from WWF Armenia.
