The pollution extent of white storks in Ararat Valley in 2022 makes up about 39.6%, out of which 46.6% is in Ararat Region and 35.3% is in Armavir Region, as the Armenian branch of the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU) informs.
According to the source, the areal of stork pollution increased by about 19% in 2022 as compared to 2021. "The problem of pollution of white storks' feathers in Ararat Valley has existed for about 6 years - since 2017. Unfortunately, many studies still do not allow us to come to a final conclusion about the causes and sources of pollution, and the ecological disaster in the Ararat Valley remains an urgent issue," the NABU-Armenia press release says.
