EM Proposing to Double Whitefish Caviar Six-Month-Long Export Ban from Armenia

Environment Ministry proposes to establish a 6-month ban on the export of whitefish caviar from the territory of Armenia. The Ministry has put into circulation draft resolution "On applying a temporary ban on the export of whitefish caviar from the territory of the Republic of Armenia" on the e-draft website of the joint publication of draft legal acts, which should enter into force on July 2, 2023. It should be noted that a temporary ban on the export of whitefish caviar has already been applied once in the cabinet session of RA government on December 22, 2022.

According to the rationale of the resolution, as a result of the process of regulating the commercial fishing of whitefish in Lake Sevan, there has been an increase in whitefish biomass in Lake Sevan in recent years (2668 tons in 2019, 2345 tons in 2020, 5348 tons in 2021 and 4700 tons in 2022), which makes it possible to ensure a small amount of commercial fishing in Lake Sevan (300 tons in 2020, 300 tons in 2021, 600 tons in 2022, 300 tons in 2023).
