A 15-kW solar power plant was installed on the roof of the administrative building of Dsegh settlement of Tumanyan consolidated community in Lori Region, the second floor of the building and the roof were repaired. The works were carried out by WWF-Armenia within the framework of “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia " (LILA) project.
On December 19, 2023, the official opening of the renovated floor department took place. Tigran Hovsepyan, Adviser to Lori Regional Governor, who was present at the event, noted that one of the important components of the state's development is the balanced development of administrative regions and communities. Tumanyan Mayor Suren Tumanyan noted that the installed solar plant will ensure energy saving in Dsegh. "Thermal insulation works were done in the building, which gives a great benefit to the community in terms of costs," he said.
Karen Manvelyan, Director of WWF Armenia noted, "We have a climate change mitigation component in the project. We implemented a pilot project in Dsegh. As a result of the installation of solar panels, the community budget will be saved, and the money saved will be used to solve other problems."
“Promotion of Eco-Corridors in the Southern Caucasus"-II project is also being implemented by WWF Armenia in this community. Karen Manvelyan mentioned that Dsegh has experienced great development in recent years due to tourism, and events will also be implemented in Dsegh with this project. "We plan to conclude an eight-year agreement with the community and the community NGO with the eco-corridors project. As part of that project, there will be area guards here to prevent poaching and illegal logging. We will provide them with a car and necessary equipment. As a result, there will be free money for community needs.”
Khachik Sahakyan, Director of "Armenian Center for Green Technologies" Foundation, noted: "Such a project solve not only socio-economic, but also serious environmental problems. The plant contributes to avoiding the emission of 10 tons of carbon dioxide annually. As a result of the remaining measures, 1.5-2 tons of carbon dioxide will not be emitted into the atmosphere according to preliminary estimates, which is quite a serious number in terms of the overall project." Khachik Sahakyan emphasized the introduction of the concept of energy management in communities.
“Promotion of Eco-Corridors in the Southern Caucasus"-II Project Coordinator Armen Shahbazyan noted: “Emphasis should be placed on involvement, this field requires hearty compassion. Nature should be treated like property, the better we look after it, the more benefits you will get."
According to Armen Shahbazyan, Dsegh owes its development to the wonderful nature that surrounds it. "Nature is the most important source of money, we need to pay serious attention to it, we need it in the future as well," he said.
“Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project is funded by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Armenia in collaboration with Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO.
