Only 33 days remain before Armenia hosts the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17). Delegations from 196 countries that are Parties to the Convention will gather in Yerevan from 19 to 30 October to determine pathways for the conservation and sustainable use of the planet’s biodiversity.
Ahead of COP17, various meetings, workshops and discussions are being held in Armenia to familiarise participants with opportunities for participation in the conference and with the biodiversity agenda. In cooperation with the Fridtjof Nansen Institute, EcoLur Informational NGO organised a workshop dedicated to the engagement of Armenian civil society on the eve of COP17.
EcoLur has also continued its COP17 preparatory activities in communities across Armenia. During visits to Armash, Dilijan, Sevan, Yeghegnadzor and Jermuk communities, the organisation met with residents, raised awareness about COP17 and listened to their proposals.
The new video presents Armenia’s preparations for COP17, opportunities for civil society engagement, and the voice of communities as an important component of discussions on biodiversity conservation.
