10th-grade students at Kapan Secondary School No. 8, with the support of their history teacher, Hermine Gyurjinyan, have produced a video about Shikahogh State Reserve and the importance of biodiversity conservation.
Through this initiative, the students are participating in “Biodiversity on Ashkharatsuyts” flash mob organized by the Ashkharatsuyts educational platform. Participants were invited to present the significance of a particular plant, animal, forest, or protected area and explain its distinctive role in the ecosystem.
The students chose Shikahogh Reserve as their subject. After researching the topic online, they visited the reserve accompanied by their teacher and spoke with Andranik Abelyan, Acting Director of the Zangezur Biosphere Complex. Based on the information they gathered, they produced a video dedicated to Shikahogh’s natural environment, ecosystem conservation, and environmental responsibility.
The film is also dedicated to the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), currently being held in Yerevan.
The initiative’s organizers hope that public support will help spread the students’ environmental message and draw greater attention to the importance of protecting Shikahogh Reserve.
