Armenia may leave Aarhus Convention because of the scandal around the Khosrov Forest State Reserve, the leader of the Association, Karine Danielyan, said at press-conference.
The disputable situation appeared when in 2007 the government issued a decree on establishing Gilan Wildlife Preserve, and thereby recovering integrity of "Khosrov Forest" State Reserve. Ecologists worried about the fact of a two-storied building construction at the territory of Gilan. According to Armenian Nature Protection Ministry, the building was foreseen for the visit-centre, but ecologists say - for a restaurant. In 2010 Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunayn adopted a decision to freeze construction of the building.
As Danielyan recalled, the Committee on observing the Aarhus Convention has already twice pointed at the fact that Armenia did not fulfill the points fixed in the document. The first case was regarding Dalma Gardens and the second - Tekhut deposit. , - she said.
