Gilan Issue Still not Finished in Khosrov Reserve

The issue of Gilan Section in “Khosrov Forest” reserve is not finished yet. As it’s known, the government recognized null and void the government decision about changing the status of Gilan from nature reserve to wildlife preserve. Reminder: In 2007, the government adopted a decision to change the status of 118 ha land area (Gilan Section) in Khosrov Forest Reserve with two subsequent decisions permitting to rent and construct buildings on the territory. Indeed, the first decision lost its effect, but the government keeps silence about other two decisions. The matter is the site development is implemented, as the construction of a building resembling a restaurant complex is practically accomplished. In this regard, the official statement says:

“The government lent an attentive ear to signal alarms. As a matter of fact, there were some reasons for concern, and the government recognized its former decision null and void for effective preservation of Gilan ecosystem.” Nobody still knows what will happen to the building, it’s only known that the ministry is discussing the proposal to use that particular building as visitor center for visitors to the reserve. Then a question arises: whether it’s government that intends to compensate expenses to the building owner and whether it’s legal, if the whole process was illegal from the very beginning.
