Foundation Established To Improve Yerevan Botanical Garden

A foundation has been established to improve the state of Yerevan Botanical Garden, as Zhirayr Vardanyan, Director of the Institute of Botany of NAS RA, told in his interview to EcoLur, with the funds donated to the Foundation it's planned to improve Botanical Museum and around 20 ha of the non-collection area around the Botanical Garden designed for the rest of the visitors. ''Tree alleys will be improved in this area: there will be facilities for the playground and rest of the children, a summer auditorium, sporting events and a temporary cafe. There won't be any buildings,' Zhirayr Vardanyan said. He said that a working group will be set up, which will develop recreational zone in the non-collection area of the garden. 'We will also invite the specialists of the Nature Protection Ministry to work in this group,' Zirayr Vardanyan said. The Yerevan Botanical Garden was opened in 1935 in the north-eastern part of Yerevan.
