“ArmPower” CJSC, a member of Renko Group of Companies, intends to reconstruct a new thermal power plant built in Yerevan in 2020-2021.
The second public hearing of the application for the preliminary environmental impact assessment of the reconstruction of the new combined cycle power unit in Yerevan submitted by “ArmPower” CJSC for environmental expert assessment will take place at 11:00 am on May 20 at the residence of Shengavit Administrative District Head in Yerevan. According to the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On Environmental Impact Assessment", the envisaged activity is classified as category "A" type of activity; it is subject to examination in two stages. The average annual capacity of the plant will make up 254 MW.
In 2021, after the completion of construction works, the thermal power plant was put into operation. Just a year later, the company intends to rebuild it, as, under the project, a number of circumstances were revealed during several months of operation.
The nearest residential districts are Nor Kharberd, Ayntap, which are 1.2-1.5 km away, and residential buildings in Erebuni and Shengavit administrative districts in Yerevan are more than 2.2 km away.
Under the project, production leakage occurs from the cooling tower system, there is a leak of oily water flowing from the surface and operated equipment.
