Positions of Yerevan Residents, Mayor and "Green Rock Management" Company regarding Relocation of Tennis Court of Ring Park

Capital residents and initiatives have started a joint campaign with the demand not to remove the tennis courts of "Ararat" Club of Ring Park in Yerevan. A petition with the slogan "Save Tennis in Armenia" was opened on website www.change.org. "If the oldest tennis courts operating in Yerevan are closed and demolished, then tennis as a sport will be endangered and great and irreversible damage will be done to that field. The traditions formed for almost 60 years are an integral part of Yerevan, and future generations will not have the opportunity to train in these courts, which have become the sports face of Yerevan. By closing 6 out of 22 courts, Yerevan will record a big setback in the field of tennis," the text of the petition states.

Reminder: a few days ago, it became known to the public that Yerevan Municipality intends to apply to RA Government to recognize the 4th section of Ring Park as an eminent public domain and hand it over to "Green Rock Management" company with the right of development.

On January 15, 2024, during the procedural consultation of Yerevan, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced that in order to improve the 4th section of Ring Park, the recreation area will be freed from the various restaurants and cafes in the area, and as for "Ararat" tennis club, it will operate in another reconstructed and more comfortable conditions in the place.

"Green Rock Management" company issued a press release, which says:

Referring to the discussions about the improvement project of the 4th section of Ring Park, we would like to inform you that the company received a proposal from Yerevan Municipality months ago to submit a project for the transformation and improvement of Ring Park of Yerevan (O4 Green Urban Hub).
For the implementation of O4 Green Urban Hub, the company announced its willingness to invest more than 8.5 million USD. If the project is approved, these funds would be used for the design and implementation of the project, the goal of which is to restore Tamanyan project of Ring Park in Yerevan and turn it into an urban park in accordance with international standards, preserving all structures of historical and cultural value and providing round-the-clock service.

The implementation of the project is currently being discussed with Yerevan Municipality, at the moment there is no signed document between the Municipality and Green Rock Management Group.
