Whether Yerevan and Gyumri Are Green Cities? CEE Bankwatch Network Published Video Prepared in Cooperation with EcoLur

On July 15, 2023, "CEE Bankwatch Network" International Network of NGOs published the video entitled "Whether Yerevan and Gyumri Are Green Cities?"

In August 2016, Yerevan became the first city to join the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)’s Green Cities programme, followed by Gyumri in 2018.

However, after a few years, it became clear that the Green City Action Plans (GCAP) in Armenia's largest cities did not meet the goals of improving air quality, green zones and waste management.

These gaps highlighted by EcoLur are presented in the video within the framework of "Be informed about plans and programs of Green cities in Yerevan and Gyumri" project implemented with the support of "CEE Bankwatch Network". In particular, during the last 5 years, the air quality in the capital has deteriorated, the green area per capita in the center of Yerevan makes up 3 square meters, while according to the World Health Organization, the minimum area makes up 9 square meters. And finally, Yerevan's Nubarashen landfill does not meet international standards for sanitary waste.

The main message of the video is that the EBRD should be consistent with the implementation of Green Cities Action Plans and make community development information available to the general public, and local governments should also involve residents in the decision-making process.
