On January 11, 2024, the Armenian government approved the procedure for inventorying greenhouse gas emissions. The purpose of the inventory of greenhouse gas emissions is to ensure the fulfillment of Armenia’s obligations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement and to submit the report of the national cadastre of greenhouse gas emissions to the UN Secretariat.
The provisions of the order approved by the executive extend to the anthropogenic emissions and absorptions of greenhouse gases throughout the territory of the Republic of Armenia and do not include those greenhouse gases regulated by the 1987 Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, except for gases regulated by the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.
GHG inventory should be carried out by RA Environment Ministry. This structure should ensure the launch of the electronic database of inventory of greenhouse gas emissions within six months. The inventory will be carried out in the fields of energy, agriculture, forestry and other land use, waste, as well as industrial processes and product use. A national inventory system will be established.
