241.895 Ha of Agricultural Land Areas in Gegharkounik Region Changed Their Category Because of Construction of Solar Photovoltaic Stations

The construction of 55 MW Masrik 1 solar photovoltaic plant is planned to start in May 2022. 130 hectares of land area have been provided for the construction of the station, as Chief Secretary of RA Gegharkunik Regional Municipality Sevak Khlghatyan stated in response N02/2377to EcoLur's inquiry dated on 11.04.2022. "Estimate documents have been prepared on the basis of the architectural-planning task of the construction of " Masrik 1 "station. A construction permit has been issued by the community head. Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2022 and will be completed in 2023," the letter says.

According to Public Services Regulatory Commission, 7 solar power plants generate electricity in Gegharkunik Region. 12 solar stations are under construction.

"All the lands provided for the construction of the mentioned solar photovoltaic power plants were agricultural lands before the change of the intended purpose in the prescribed manner." In other words, a total of 241,895 hectares of agricultural land has been changed for the development of solar energy in Gegharkunik Region.

EcoLur was also interested in how the problems of using, recycling or storing decommissioned solar panels as waste will be resolved. In this regard, the reply letter says: "The service life of the solar panels is 30-40 years, after which they are subject to repair."
