On April 20 the kick-off meeting of the Third Working Group (Environment, Climate Change and Energy Security) of Armenian National Platform of Civil Society Forum of EU Eastern Partnership will be held at EcoLur Press Club on 20 April.
At the meeting the EaP CSP ANP Coordinator Boris Navasardyan, Karine Danielyan, Chairman of “For Sustainable Human Development”, and WG3 Coordinator Gevorg Petrosyan spoke about the main goal of this working group.
“EcoLur” Informational NGO Chairman Inga Zarafyan mentioned that meeting aimed to find out what kind of resources and goals the NGOs have, to what extent they comply with the program included in the program and how these resources can be combined to achieve the combination of these goals.
The discussion specified the goals and working direction of the WG, i.e. climate change, energy safety, biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, public raising and education. So, it has been decided to carry out monitoring to regulate the works in these fields.
“We are trying to present our problems to Europe through combining society. Among the current six countries (we speak about the six post-Soviet countries included in the Civil Forum of the Eastern Partnership, i.e. Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia). Armenia is on the highest level in all criteria. Institutional changes and all probable environmental stages are carried out, but the real picture, the environmental situation of Armenia, is a nonsense,” told EcoLur WG3 Coordinator Gevorg Petrosyan, “the European countries think that the adoption of a law presumes its enforcement, while in our country it’s not so definite, and if they want to make us a country in line with the European criteria, first of all, they should seek to make our society like theirs through their experience, aid and announcements.”
Gevorg Petrosyan mentioned the area analyses will serve as a basis for the monitoring of proper sections of road map. The Armenian National Platform road map developed by the EU includes all the criteria and main directions, which are needed for the Eurointegration of Civil Forum Member countries.
“So far the forum has been operating without financing, from this year on there would be some funding and National Platforms will have a secretariat, which will be provided funding for such cases. They will probably receive money for monitoring,” G. Petrosyan said.
During the meeting the group members decided to take part in the Strategic Discussion of the Human Rights Defender to be held on April 23, where environmental issues will also be raised.
Reminder: This is one of the processes for Armenian integration to Europe, which is implemented both at governmental and civil society levels.
