Expert Emil Sahakyan considers Law “On Construction of New Power Unit in the Republic of Armenia” absurd, which was adopted by the National Assembly in 2009. “This document is just an absurd. Maybe there is no parliament, which would fix the capacity of the power unit, i.e. its technical specifications, in the law,” Emil Sahakyan said. The capacity of 1200 megawatt is not combined with the power regime available in Armenia in any way. “This is huge load in the operational regime of electric power systems, while the management of winter and summer regimes will practically become impossible. The hope is to sell the extra power to other countries. If these countries are not listed, in the conversations you can hear the names of turkey, Georgia and even Azerbaijan,” the expert says. He is sure that the capacity of 300 megawatt is sufficient for the needs of Armenia.
