Tigran Sargsyan Considers Tobacco Use More Serious Problem Than Environmental Problems Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan considered the use of tobacco a more serious problem than environmental ones. On 21 November the PM referred to this issue, when at the meeting the Armenian Government approved the draft laws on making amendments to RA Law ‘On Advertisement’ and RA Code “Administrative Offences”, which aims to ban the advertizing of tobacco products, the promotion of their sales and cronyism. “It’s a little bit surprising for me that we can hear the environmentalists’ voices day and night, but the risks are not compatible, while each day many people die because of smoking. But I don’t know why the society is more tolerable towards this disease than any other environmental phenomenon,” Tigran Sargsyan particularly said. Naturally tobacco is harmful for the human health and we are sure that the environmentalists are also against smoking, but the environmental problems are not less hazardous for the human health.

Mining, toxic wastes, air pollution with heavy and toxic metals and dust, lack of oxygen due to forest felling, the irrigation of agricultural land areas with waters of the rivers polluted with toxic substances and the realization of inorganic agrofood also pose damage to human health. They cause a number of cancer, respiratory, heart and allergic diseases, which result in the death of hundreds people every day. Indeed, these risks are not compatible.
