Five companies are going to build solar photovoltaic power plants with a capacity of 5 MW each in the area of Herher and Azatek settlements in Vayots Dzor Region, Armenia. These are interconnected companies "EDM Solar", "Sun Solar", "Daughter Solar", "Arm Solar" and "I Solar" LLCs.
The 4th public hearing of the companies' environmental impact assessment reports submitted by RA Ministry of Environment is scheduled for April 28, 2022.
"EDM Solar" LLC is going to build a station in the area of Azatek Village. The station will cover 4.5 hectares.
"Sun Solar" LLC is going to build on 16 plots of Varats Mount in Herher village. The station will cover 5.4 hectares. According to the bids, the lands selected for the construction of the stations are arid pastures, natural ecosystems are degraded, the vegetation is almost absent.
Defective panels will be stored at the waste disposal site during operation, after which they will be handed over to a licensed company, which will transport and manage them.
The bids do not contain information on how much space the waste depots will occupy. It does not specify the name of the organization that will be involved in waste transportation or management.
It is mentioned that there is still no solution for the waste of solar station equipment in Armenia. It is planned to repair the equipment if possible, to use the damaged parts twice, not to bury the panels containing photo elements or to collect them in landfills, in the open condition, to sell them to other organizations engaged in waste collection.
